GOTCHA DAY!!!!!
Today we took a very early flight from Beijing to Nanchang. We flew Hainan airlines and it was about a 2
hour flight. When we arrived, we were
greeted by Mary our guide. We arrived at
the hotel at noon and were told that Lilija would be brought to our room at
4:00. Those 4 hours were the longest of
our lives! Shortly before 4:00 Mary came
and we went through all of the paperwork that was needed for the next day to
complete the adoption. At about 4:10
Lilija was brought up to our room by 2 members of the orphanage staff. She was very scared and clung to the familiar
caretaker. She is quite a strong little
lady. She screamed, cried, pushed,
scratched and pinched for about 15 or 20 minutes until Rob noticed that she was
eying a water bottle. That water bottle
worked like magic to calm her down. She
was very thirsty. We were told that she
had gotten car sick on the way. It was a
4 hour drive from her orphanage, so that must have been rough for her. We were told that she has had a cold for
the last few days as well L. Once she settled down, we went
down to dinner and boy did that make her happy!
She has a hearty appetite. She
ate rice, watermelon and chicken! We
were told that she eats 3 meals per day.
We were told that her diet consisted of rice, noodles, milk, and
cake. Susan, our Beijing guide, told us
that the saying in China for sleeping very well is “to sleep like a pig”. We all slept like little pigs that night!!!
